Blog Assignment # 2
Why innovation is all about people rather than bright ideas:
The time to adopt a new technology is decreasing dramatically. This has huge implications on the society and organizations who want to be relevant in the future need to start innovating. It is not about having a bright idea rather what is important is execution. It is hard to innovate as it is very hard to implement change and also there are few other reasons why it is hard to innovate. Firstly, most of the large organizations are not set up for a new setup. Secondly, innovation is about long term results whereas most of the new organizations are setup on very short term KPIs. Thirdly, many organizations show that failing is alright, however, it is not the case and they are very strict about failure. According to a study held at Oxford, it showed that half of the top 500 companies will survive in the next 5 years. Innovation does not only mean to have the right equipment rather it also is about having the right people because companies need people who are passionate about their work and want to drive a change. There are three conditions that are very valuable for innovation. Firstly, Hire people based on their passion and not on their skills because a resume looks back and not forward. Secondly, create a safe environment for such people because it makes no sense if a passionate person has barriers in executing his work. Lastly, give them room for mistake and enable them to accept their mistakes freely, also as a boss take the responsibility rather than giving blame. In the end, it is all about people, the right people.
